Business Think Tank Predicts a UAW Strike at Ford Motor Company

In the Fall of 2007 we watched the United Auto Workers strike at General Motors, and Chrysler. Will Ford Motor Company be next? One online think tank not only thinks so, they believe it will be real soon, perhaps before the November Elections. Can Ford handle a strike?

Ford Motor Company has had a hell of a year, as they have lost significant market share to Toyota. It is selling off its European Luxury Brands for cash and has borrowed some 25 Billion Dollars and recently reported a 12.5 Billion Dollar loss. Will the UAW be merciful, that is the question, does Ford Motor Company have a choice?

If Ron Gettelfinger, the UAW President, who used to work at a Factory making Ford automobiles has any say, it appears he will be toughest on Ford. This could be the final deathnail of Ford Motor Company, warn analysts, and Ford may not have many choices, but if it gives in too much, the company will not be able to compete in the future.

What will the demands on Ford Motor Company be, can the they survive, some are already asking? Ford has some opportunity in the future with hybrid markets and still has a strong brand with consumers, but is it enough? If Ford is debt laden and costs are raised for benefits and pensions, it may put Ford at a competitive disadvantage that may kill the company's future growth and earnings.

The company's stock has already been reduced on speculation that the outcome of the UAW negotiations will not be favorable to Ford's future. Indeed, there is expected to be a further tumbling of share prices as the future strike is announced. Is it a good buying opportunity for the stock or is it the beginning of the end of a Great American Company?
